Rwanda National Congress Welcomes U.S. Ambassador Nomination to Rwanda

Download PDF Email X Facebook

The incoming Ambassador will assume the role amid significant diplomatic and regional challenges. Rwandan military forces and their allied armed group, M23, currently occupy key parts of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), including the cities of Goma and Bukavu. Rwanda stands accused of violence and plunder of the DRC’s rich mineral resources. In response, the United States has imposed sanctions on the Rwandan military and on General James Kabarebe, a close associate of Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

“The new American ambassador faces a complex and demanding portfolio,” said the RNC Spokesperson, Advocate Ignace. “We wish the Ambassador success in advancing U.S. interests, promoting stability in the Great Lakes region, and upholding democratic values during this challenging tenure.”
