Statement Of Solidarity With The People Of The Democratic Republic Of The Congo On The Genocost Commemoration
PORTLAND, Maine — August 02 nd , 2026 — On the occasion of the GENOCOST Commemoration, Rwanda National Congress (RNC) extends its heartfelt condolences and unwavering solidarity to the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as they honor the memory of their loved ones.
As Rwandans, we understand the pain of genocide and mass atrocities. We believe every victim deserves to be remembered with dignity, every grieving family deserves compassion, and every society deserves the truth.
We express our deepest sympathy to all Congolese who have suffered from atrocities and violence. We unequivocally condemn those responsible for these crimes and affirm that lasting peace can only be built through truth, accountability, and justice. We therefore support all genuine efforts to ensure that those responsible for serious crimes are held accountable in accordance with the law.
Today, we wish to convey a simple message to the Congolese people: Many Rwandans mourn with you. We stand in solidarity with all innocent victims and reaffirm our commitment to justice, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence between the peoples of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Rwanda National Congress is committed to building a democratic Rwanda that restores trust and friendship between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, promotes good neighborly relations, and contributes to lasting peace, security, and prosperity throughout the Great Lakes Region.
To our Congolese brothers and sisters: your pain is not yours alone. We mourn with you, stand with you, and remain committed to a future founded on truth, justice, reconciliation, and peace.
